Pluck — last updated 9 August 2026
The short version. An Apple account is optional. Pluck does not ask Apple for your name or email. We don't run ads, use analytics or advertising identifiers, or sell your data. What you write in a live practice round is sent to our coaching engine so the character can reply and Pluckie can explain the likely effect. SMS practice is optional and sends only the synthetic Pluck round you chose to start.
What stays on your phone
Your progress lives in the app's own storage on your device: your XP, streak, rating, badges, the practice goal you chose, the time window you picked, and a measurement record for each finished round.
Each round record keeps the measurements — the rating each of your messages earned, whether you named a time, whether you recovered after a dip — and, so that a finished round reopens as the same screen you saw at the time, the messages you wrote, the coach's read of them, and the reads you called. The other side is never kept: no character's reply is stored on your device.
All of that stays inside the app on your phone. It is never re-sent, never shared, and never used for anything but showing your own practice back to you.
Deleting the app removes all of it. You can also wipe it from inside the app at any time: Settings → Privacy & data → Delete practice data.
What is sent off your phone
- The messages you type during a live round, plus which character and objective you're practicing against.
- Nothing else. No contacts, no photos, no location, no device identifiers, no address book, and no messages from any real conversation — Pluck cannot read your actual texts and never asks to.
- If you connect SMS, your phone number and that synthetic practice conversation pass through Twilio so the messages can be delivered. Pluck never reads your other conversations.
- If you DM PLAY to Pluck on Instagram, Meta provides a scoped inbox identifier so Pluck can reply with the app link. It is not linked to your Pluck account.
That data goes to our coaching engine (hosted on Fly.io in the United States) and is processed by Anthropic's API to generate the character's reply and the coaching breakdown. Anthropic does not train models on it.
What our server keeps
The engine stores each round — including the text of that round's messages — so it can hold the conversation together and produce your breakdown. Before sign-in, rounds are linked only to a random id for that app install. If you choose Sign in with Apple, Pluck links them to Apple's private per-app account identifier. Pluck does not request your Apple name or email.
The account also keeps an Apple refresh credential so Apple access can be revoked when you delete the account. Session credentials stay in the iOS Keychain. If you connect SMS, the server keeps your phone number while that channel is linked or paused. Disconnect SMS or delete the account to remove it. Mobile information is never shared with third parties for their marketing or promotional purposes. The in-app deletion control removes the server copy and the phone copy together.
Safety
Pluck’s published crisis-response protocol is available on the Safety page.
Pluck is a practice game, not therapy, counselling, or crisis support. Messages are checked — on your device and again on our server — for language suggesting self-harm or crisis. When that check fires, the round stops and the app shows real crisis resources instead of a character reply. Those checks exist to get you to help, not to profile you.
Who can use it
Pluck is for people aged 18 and over.
Children
We don't knowingly collect anything from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has used the app, email us and we'll delete the associated data.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, the updated date at the top changes and the new version replaces this page.
